The Egyptian government has been oppressing the people for more than 24 years. Under the Emergency law most of our civil rights have been denied and political life died. In our homeland our countrymen and women have no freedom to vote, assemble peacefully or practice their faiths. No parties are allowed except the ruling party and the government has full control of all the media outlets.

Our country has been plagued by corruption because there is no accountability process for public officials. This led to the spread of bribery, abuse of power and improper use of public resources out of carelessness or ignorance. Now our beloved country is entering the 21st century with record poverty, illiteracy and low standard of living. Countries like Japan and Korea, which started rebuilding after their total destruction, have superseded us. Most of our educated citizens have fled the country to Europe and our youth are desperate wanting to immigrate anywhere.

The Mubarak regime has been skirting the issues of political reform for more than 24 years. His latest attempt to dodge the demand of the people by tailoring the constitution will not be tolerated. Our people demand a fair muliti-candidiate transparent election process, a term limit on the president and limit on the power of the executive branch of government.

To achieve these demands, I call all people of conscience to protest on Election Day in front of the Egyptian consulates and embassies around the world. This will send a clear message to the dictator that acting against the will of the people will not be tolerated.
